2016 Vintage Pattern Pledge

So after only pledging to make 4 last year, and finishing up with 6 (not including any made from reproduction patterns or fabric which hadn't come from my stash) I have decided to go a little more ambitious this year and I have pledged to make up 10 of my Vintage patterns. I bought and was gifted quite a few vintage patterns and Australian Home Journals, So I have plenty of Vintage Patterns to choose from.

Perhaps I'll finally make up the cute collared shirt from this Australian Home Journal? I have been getting much more practice with buttonholes, and I do need more seperates, so this will be a strong contender to get sewn this year. I previously used this Home Journal to sew the dress in the center for the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival

I received this great simplicity pattern from one of my Secret Santa's this Christmas just past, and think it will make a perfect winter work dress if made up in a nice heavier weight fabric

Speaking of Work attire, I still really want to make this pattern up for myself. I made it up for the lovely Rachel who owns Elsie George Boutique, and graded the pattern up to fit me, but my cats got on my cutting table and shredded up my graded pattern (not the original thank goodness) so I lost the motivation to work on this project, but hopefully I will get back to it this year and have a spiffy new suit to wear to work.

I picked up this Pattern sometime in 2015 (from Ebay I think) that is almost my size, so will require very little grading, with the intention of making some easy to throw on sensible workwear. I am seeing a bit of a pattern here, I obviously need more suitable work wear. even though my boss doesn't mind me wearing my brightly coloured, full skirted dresses in the office, sometimes I think it would be good to have some slightly more appropriate Vintagey options to wear (like my 2 versions of Butterick B6094)

I am in the process of grading this pattern into a multi-size pattern, and will be testing it out in my size very soon, so this will probably my first Vintage Pledge for 2016. I had a bit of trouble deciding how to grade the front bodice piece, so I will be definitely be testing it before scanning and sharing the pattern.

I know from last Me-Made-May I still need more separates, office wear, outerwear and pyjamas to make my me-made wardrobe more functional, so I will endeavour to fill those wardrobe gaps with some of my Vintage pledge makes

Who else has signed up?

  1. Amazing pattern choices. I'm signing up for the first year and trying a 20s pattern. Neat pledge!

    1. I'd love to have a genuine 20's pattern, but I probably wouldn't sew it up as I don't think that era suits me particularly well. Looking forward to seeing what you create!

  2. I've signed up with my wimpy five pattern pledge, but I am happy that one of those patterns needs to be pants. I feel like that's less whimpy somehow! *nods* All of these are super great patterns though ~ can't wait to see what you make this year! ❤

    1. 5 is not wimpy, especially if you are including pants! I only pledged 4 last year, and my count would have been much higher if I also included reproduction patterns, but I am trying to force myself to use more of my vintage ones, which means I need to grade them up and not be lazy by using the reproductions that are already in my size.

  3. That looks like a delightful bunch of patterns to make up - I'm looking forward to seeing them on your blog when they're done!

    1. Thanks, I know it looks a little boring with all the workwear, but I guarantee I will get distracted by many pretty Home Journal frocks along the way as well!

  4. I really think I should have a trawl through my vintage patterns and sign up to this too! I love the simplicity 3107, especially the neckline. I think it will be so pretty made up. I think I may actually have Simplicity 3157 (or something very similar) waiting in my stash for cooler months. Looking forward to seeing what you make :)
